# What Telegram publishes about business accounts and connected bots

Telegram Business features, what a connected bot may do on a user's behalf, and what the developer terms require. Read on the platform's own pages, dated.

Telegram Business went live on 31 March 2024. The launch post lists the features: opening hours, a location on a map, a custom start page, quick replies, greeting and away messages, chat folder tags, links to chat, and a section titled "Chatbots for Business". The post's closing line states that all Telegram Business features are available free to Premium subscribers.

The API documentation adds a distinction that matters for anyone running a creator account. Every business method requires a Business subscription, which the page says is currently included in Telegram Premium, with one exception: connected bots are also available to non-Premium users. The connected bots page repeats it: connecting a business bot does not require Telegram Premium.

What a connected bot can do is set by the account owner. The recipients object lets the owner choose existing chats, new chats, contacts, non-contacts, a list of specific users, or the inverse of a list. Just one business bot may be connected to a user account. The owner can pause a single chat or permanently disconnect it, and the bot then receives new, edited and deleted message updates for the chats it has been given, and may reply, delete messages and mark history as read on the owner's behalf, according to the rights granted at connection.

The obligations sit in clause 5.4 of the Bot Developer Terms. A bot designated as a Chatbot under Telegram Business must clearly and truthfully represent the full extent of its services, state what private data it retains and for how long, never use message contents for any purpose other than the business service, never disclose them to third parties including third-party APIs without the user's authorisation, never conceal its activity from the account owner, and notify business users of significant changes.

Not documented on these pages: any per-message volume limit for a business connection, and any statement of whether the recipient of an automated reply is told it was written by a bot. The desk did not find either and prints the gap rather than a number.
